What To Do On The Next Page Rank Update
Day 47 of The 100 Days To Building A Great Website Guide
It has been several months since the last Google Page Rank update. Google tends to update their external page rank every 3-4 months, so we can only assume that an update is coming soon.
Below shows a graph from Google trends. The spikes in search for “Page Rank” most likely indicate page ranks updates

So what should you do when Google updates the Page Rank?
It used to be that you could see your search engine rankings jump dramatically whenever Google updated its page rank. That is not the case anymore. Google now does a continuous update on their internal rankings, but only releases those updates in blocks at one time. But you can still make the most of any page that got updates
1) Change Advertising Rates - If you have advertisers they most likely pay based on how popular your site is. An increased page rank is a testament that your site just got more popular. Ads on your site should be worth more money, so make sure that you think about charging more next time your advertisers resubscribe.
2) Ask for Articles - Now that you have higher PR, people may be more likely to contribute some articles to your site so they can get some of that ranking for themselves. So once your PR has been updated, be sure to let people know that fact, and ask if they want to contribute any articles
3) Check Services Like Text-Link-Ads - Sites such as TLA base which posts of your are worthy of advertisement solely on their page rank. Your posts must be at least PR 2 to go into their marketplace, and the higher the PR is the more they are worth. After Google updates their page rank, make sure to use the TLA tool to reindex your site and get more posts in their marketplace
4) Show Off - Page rank isn’t really the bragging tool that it used to be. For blogs, things like Technorati and Feed Burner stats have taken some of the prestige away from having a high page rank site. Still, you can always take the opportunity to brag a little bit. After all, your new rankings represent a lot of work on your part, so revel some.
5) Research - Do some research into which of your pages increased in page rank. Why did those pages increase, and which increased the most. Was the Page Rank bounce because those pages got a lot of inbound links from smaller sites, or did those pages get one really good link from a popular site? Figure out what you did right with those pages, and try to duplicate it in the future.
I have been wrong before, but I expect there to be an external page rank update by the middle/end of August (2007). So when the next one occurs, make sure that you are ready to make the most of it.
Any other tips I should be including on this list? Let me know and I’ll add them to the article and link to you as the contributor.

Your #4 just made me think of something…what do you think about developing a service that gives another type of rating? People fully believe in Alexa, Technorati and PR, but there might be some money in developing a new system that gives another kind of rating. Of course the hard part would be getting it to be accepted by people…
on July 15th, 2007 at 11:09 pm
That’s a good idea. If you have a service which can accurately rank webpages people will most likely use it.
the two main difficulties of course are actually developing the system, I don’t know enough of the back end of Alexa or Technorati to even begin doing that, and of course getting people to use it.
If it is just a knock off no one will use it.
If it is original everyone will
Good luck

I started my blog in February and it’s a PR4 already, according to predictions I’ll be a PR5 coming up. And since February I’ve made $10 from my blog! I don’t know about this PR ranking stuff really, I don’t think it’s all it’s cracked up to be…
on July 17th, 2007 at 10:27 pm
Well PR is definitely less important than it used to be. Traffic levels and type of traffic obviously count for more.
However it is still one of the better ways for an outsider to judge a site, if you don’t have access to its stats

It sure is a big time period when Google alters the Page Ranks. There is much setup that occurs to prepare for the change, and then after the change, there is much talk about what occurred.

I didn’t know we can use Google Trend to predict when page rank will update. This is a good tool for me to increase my page rank in the future.

Using Google Trends to predict a page rank update is genius! I’ve never thought of that. The other tips are great too, but I predicting page rank updates can be the most frustrating part. Thanks!

Also - I forgot to ask - Are you oging to be continuing your 100 days to building a great website at all? It’s been over a year… and it would be nice to have an update
on January 23rd, 2009 at 7:42 am
Scott, this was a really cool idea to track the page rank updates and I’m curious if you were correct in your guess.
I hope you start blogging again sometime, you had a really great idea here.

on February 20th, 2009 at 8:01 am
This is a really interesting analysis. Did you find you were correct?
on March 4th, 2009 at 5:48 pm
That trend is quite neat, and it seems that it is just getting higher and higher, and I truly believe that is because there are more people jumping on board to do internet marketing and/or caring about their website ranking.
on March 13th, 2009 at 6:43 am
Scott, I’ve took your analysis and have used it to my advantage thus far. When do you anticipate updating the blog again? Or do you have a new domain?
on March 19th, 2009 at 7:04 am
I’m going to try this technique for identifying the next PR update. I feel like one should be coming up anyway, so I’ll see if your technique proves fruitful

I want to know your update PageRank. Share here your new PageRank after this major Google PageRank update on 26 July 2008.
on August 3rd, 2009 at 8:29 pm
Google’s PageRank is constantly updated, but only behind their closed doors. The last PageRank update to the outside world was on april 1. The internet comunity thinks that the next update will be around june/july.
on August 3rd, 2009 at 8:30 pm
Can’t tell you the exact date, I don’t think anyone outside of Google could. But they happen about every 3 - 4 months and the last one was just recently.

on August 10th, 2009 at 10:19 am
Ha, I never knew this, I just thought it was updated as the googlebot crawls the web like your SERPS
on August 24th, 2009 at 4:27 am
I think people get too hung up on the whole page rank issue, surely you’d take a position 1 SERPS listing over a page rank increase? I know I would!
on August 25th, 2009 at 7:14 am
@used caravans you are right, but at the same time a High PR does help you get that #1 SERP =D
Till then,

Well… I have a pretty new site that was just rolled out in the middle of April - www.PasadenaCARealEstateHomes.com . I did pretty well, I think, for only a few months of being “live”.
on September 3rd, 2009 at 2:21 pm
Interestingly, my PR remains the same on the homepage but my blog was stripped of everything. it’s true that 95% + of my links go to my homepage, so perhaps this is a continuation of the way PR travels or “bleeds.”
on September 7th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
My sites seem to go on a page rank roller coaster, up and down. I do get encouraged when I see a new page rank for my sites. Thanks for the post Scott.

Selling text links is a piece of cake if you’ve got the necessary PageRank, trust me, I know

Page rank doesn’t seem to be every 3 months now, its all random, thanks for the article Scott.
on September 22nd, 2009 at 10:06 pm
I don’t understand why everyone makes such a big deal about page rank. Traffic is more important and can exist without page rank.
on September 23rd, 2009 at 12:27 am
as of now, i am waiting for the PR update, hope all my blogs will increase their PR.
on September 28th, 2009 at 5:13 am

Secondly is links to other website not necessarily of the same content as your own but from websites that the the “Google spiders” considers to be of popular interest.
on October 6th, 2009 at 10:47 am
write lots of good content and get reputable sites to link into yours, many sites will also want a link from yours too (reciprocal linking) but make sure you don’t link to sites which only offer ads or other links…
on October 6th, 2009 at 10:48 am
There’s another way. Pay the webmaster of a high PR site to link back to your site for let’s say a month, and your site will get a PR 1 point lower than his.
on October 12th, 2009 at 4:42 pm
Any word on this one yet?
on October 13th, 2009 at 9:07 am
We can brag about AlexaRank also, especially if it is within 1 lac. After all, traffic rank should be more relevant to the advertisers.
on October 14th, 2009 at 8:52 pm
I think the page rank update will happen before the end of October.

on October 26th, 2009 at 10:11 am
Google just took their PR tool off of their website. I think they’re phasing out PR now, since they’re pretty upset about the high PR sites selling links all the time.
on November 1st, 2009 at 10:19 am
The last Google pagerank update was on April 1st, 2009 and as far as I know, the update will occurs every 3 months. So the next Google PR update hopefully will start on end of June until maybe first week of July.
on November 1st, 2009 at 10:20 am
“As far as the toolbar PageRank, I definitely wouldn’t expect to see it in the next few days. Probably not even in the next couple weeks, if I had to guess”.
on November 1st, 2009 at 4:08 pm
Google has just recently removed the PR from webmaster tools. So I don’t think it is as important as many make it out to be anymore.
on November 4th, 2009 at 7:02 am
i am very happy because my pr0 blog increase into PR3, and i am also planning to monetize it using TLA
on November 25th, 2009 at 11:00 am
However, the interval between last two updates was a little over 3 months, so expected is that the next update will happen around mid July.
on November 27th, 2009 at 8:49 am

Merely submit a “generic” search query at google.com using “generic” keywords found on your website [not your domain name or brand] and see the PR [Page Rank] of the website. For example, submit the following “generic” keywords — sandwiches downtown los angeles [making sure to spell out Los Angeles which can easily be confused with the State of Louisiana which is LA]. Wait for the 16.1 million search results, then look at the No. 1 PR [nazos.net] which holds the highest [maximum] PR among the 16.1 million search results.

on December 27th, 2009 at 5:35 pm
Hasn’t google taken Page Rank off of their published webmaster guidelines. Do you have an idea of how page rank works with SEO now? Seems like Google doesn’t like directory backlinks, doesn’t care so much for page rank anymore. So, what do they care about? I have a hard time believing there will be major emphasis on page rank speed (as people are talking about lately).

It doesn’t really imply anything, to answer your second question. Google updates PageRank periodically. As I recall, the last update was in March or April, so it’s about time for another.

I do not know if Google updates the pagerank, but I already has over 1 years with a PR4, every time Google does not put it more difficult to attract visitors to our site, Google wants all the web traffic for them, is not just be left to compete and I am trying to get by with Google Adsense.Pero really earn a pittance if you have it 5 to attract more visitors.
on February 4th, 2010 at 1:56 am
Does anyone know the last official time the Google Page Ranks were updated. Thanks
