Is Blogging Competition Or Cooperation?

Jon Symons at Art of Money is on a quest to make $100/day blogging.  Today’s topic was scouting out his competition

In it he describes how he found his top 7-10 target keywords and checked out the other blogs ranking well for the same keywords.   If keywords did not run up against stiff competition, he would consider trying to optimize his site for those keywords.

I disagree with Jon in two things.  The first is that he doesn’t seem to think that “make money online” is running into stiff competition.  I’m afraid I have to disagree.  Beings that it is going up against Problogger and Johnchow as well as Bidvertiser I have trouble thinking what blogging keyword could have more competition.

But more importantly, I disagree that you should look at other blogs as competition!  The way to get ahead in blogging isn’t by competing against other bloggers.  You can’t be a successful blogger and live in your own world.  The way to get ahead in blogging is by cooperation.  You have to become part of the greater blogging community to achieve blog success.
