A Review Of Blog-Op

Posted on May 10th, 2007 in Reviews by Scott

Opportunities, Optimization, and Opinions

All three of those can be found on Blog-Op.com

Blog-Op has a couple of great qualities about it.

1) The first is that many different bloggers contribute to Blog-Op.  You can get a wide range of different perspectives on a topic by reading it.  Since there are so many different contributors you get a much wider range of topics than you find on many blogs

2) Any One can submit an article there - It is free, it has a decent page rank and it is a great way for new sites to get initial traffic to their page.  Chris over at Blog-Op has very easy going submission criteria.  Just e-mail him your article and he’ll put it up

3) Light On the Ads - Unlike some newer blogs which I have seen blog op doesn’t try to over power their readers with advertisers.  Of course there are some ads, everyone has to pay the bills, but when you go it is easy to read the content without fighting your way through the ads.

4) Upcoming Site - Blog-Op seems to be an up and coming site.  Submitting your articles now while Chris’s submission criteria is low could be a great way to secure yourself some good long term PR

The bottom line is that Blog-Op is a good site.  If you haven’t visited there you should check it out.

Life Is Risky Review

Posted on May 3rd, 2007 in Reviews by Scott

This post is a review of the site Life is Risky, run by Susan.  I recently stumbled upon her site, and when I read the review for review trade post of hers knew that I had to take her up on it.

There are several things I Like about life is risky.  I think some of the aspects of the design are really sharp.  The header image is very nice, I’m a fan of the navigation on the left, and I think that the colors work well.  I like that the blog design is unlike many other ones that I have seen, I think it stands out, and that’s a plus.

Additionally the site has some unique and refreshing content.  Recently she has had a nice post on Self Promotion and has been growing more and more active in the blogging community.  She is leading the charge to Unban Bob, who was blocked from Digg and Reddit for self promotion, as I may be soon enough as I shamelessly self promote there.

All and all I think her blog is a good read.

However there are a few things that I dislike about her blog.  For one I think that she is trying to monetize too soon.  Most of her pages have places for ads up on them, but don’t have the ads filled.  Although putting the places for ads up is a good way to let the advertisers know that she is selling some space, it makes her blog look like it isn’t very well frequented, or else someone would have bought the ads.  Additionally, since she has installed the ads on her site the formatting has gotten a little screwed up.  On some of the pages the ads appear on top instead of on the side, making you scroll down for the content.   She should fix this as soon as possible as most readers won’t scroll down.
