Write Smaller Posts
Shorter, Better Posts
Another secret to writing a lot of good content is to write shorter posts. Theoretically, you can right four 250 word posts in the same amount of time that it takes to write one 1000 word post.
By breaking up your posts you get a variety of benefits, they include
SEO- Search engines go judge a site on both its quantity and its quality. They will give more weight to a site which has 1000 posts on a topic than a site which has 80 posts on a topic. This will lead to higher rankings in the search engines. Additionally it will lead to Google displaying better, more profitable Adsense ads on your site.
Pageviews- By kicking up the number of posts, even if they are shorter, you can drastically increase the number of page views on your site. This is great if you display ads which pay based on the number of page views, as opposed to the click through rate. Adsense is a common monetization method which does this.
Social Networking - By having lots of smaller posts, it give you the opportunity to drive more inbound links into your site. See the digg, reddit, and newsvine icons below each post? Digging your own post is a great way to get initial traffic to it. If you have many posts, that gives you the opportunity to Digg it many times and get much more traffic
Visitor Attention- How often have you started a long post, but not reached the end of it? Too often blogs are long winded and rambling. If you focus on keeping your posts short and sweet, you will be able to get to the important parts of a topic more quickly. Your readers will thank you for it.
