Writing A Series

Posted on May 2nd, 2007 in Content by Scott

Writing a blog series is one of the best ways to keep users interested in your site.  Blog series tend to generate a lot of backlinks, and they keep users coming back for more.

However a series of posts can often be hard to generate.  It is often a daunting task to know that every day you have to put out a post on a certain topic.  That is you don’t put out the post your readers will be left disappointed.  Sometimes it is so daunting that it will keep you from writing the post.  The fear of failure will often cause it.

Problogger has a great article on How To Write Blog Series

His tip is really simple.  Sit down and write it all at one time, then use the delay posting features to make sure that each post comes out on schedule.   The idea is simplicity in itself, but it is a great idea non-the-less.

Why is it such a good idea to write all your posts at 1 time?

1) You won’t forget to write the next in the series - By writing all the posts at one time you can ensure that you won’t forget to write the next one.  You won’t have an emergency come up and delay your posting.  By writing it all at one time, you can ensure that it all comes out on schedule.

2) Continuity Of Thought - By writing your series all at one time, you can ensure that all your thoughts flow well together.  You won’t sit down one day at your computer and forget what you wanted to write about that day, or why you thought it was important.

3) Edit All The Posts - By writing all the posts at one time, you can go back and edit all of your posts should you desire to do so.  You may be writing your seventh post in a series, only to decide that you need to go back and change your first post to tie it all together.   By writing your series all at one time you can ensure this is possible.
