I find that the best time to make new posts on my site is generally between 6:00 - 9:00 Eastern time.  Checking my stats I find that new posts that get the most visitors the same day or the next day are generally posted during that time.  Posting earlier or later means that less people see it when it is first published.  If less people see it when it is first published they are less likely to link to it, driving the total traffic that page gets down over its entire lifetime.

 Why is 6:00-9:00 the best time to post?  Well it is really simple when you think about it.  That is the time most people are coming home from work.  They are getting on their computers and surfing the internet.  It is not too early such that by the time they get home it would have moved off the front page at social networking sites.  Nor is it so late that they are already asleep when it first appears.  Additionally, by posting between 6:00-9:00 EST your post can hit the best time zones for everyone across the United States.

Television studios have considered 6:00-9:00 prime time for years.  They traditionally time their best shows to those times.  Maybe you should take a cue from the television studios and do the same with your posts.
