Many webmasters complain that their ads do not
get very many clicks and that they don't make money from them.
Well one of their problems is poor ad placement. They put the
ads in unobtrusive spots, so that it doesn't ugly up their page.
And there is nothing wrong with that, unless you want to maximize

it for experience? Then you probably should hide your ads and
make the site as esthetic as possible? Are you doing it for

A good place to start on where to place your
ads is to look at the Google heat map.

In this heat map, dark orange represents the
best places to place your ads, lighter colors are not as good.
All things being equal, ads 'Above the Fold' tend to do better
than ads 'Below the Fold.' Additionally ads that are near content
rich area or the navigational sections of a page tend to do
well because your visitors are focused on those area.
However, for some types of pages other ad positions also do
well. Think about the type of page you are placing the ad on.
Is it an article page? If so, then ads directly below the article
are also suggested. The reason for this is that the visitor
will often read the entire article and then wonder where to
go next. Well targeted ads at the bottom will entice them to
continue on.
